I really like this app for Zen meditation.  Sometimes when I’ve spent too much time sitting at my computer, my mind goes blank and I start making mistakes.  I just walk away and sit in my sun room and use this app.  My mind isn’t thinking about what I walked away from.  Before I know it I get an idea and I’m back on track.  Give it a try, it’s a great tool to stop thinking so much and let the answers to everything become clear.

Japa Mala Meditation

In some religions Rosary beads are used to count prayers, 10 Hail Mary’s etc.  Japa Mala beads are used to count mantras.  The definition of Japa is derived from the root jap, meaning to utter in a low voice.  Mala is the string of be beads used to count your mantra.    Traditionally the beads are made of wood but any bead can be used.  When practicing Japa Mala meditaion it is important to know that the sound, tone and frequency of the chant is what utilizes the law of attraction.  EVERYTHING resonates with vibrations, our thoughts as well as the objects that surround us.  Another important thing to know is that you do not have to be exact.  The tones in any mantra are powered by your thoughts.  Don’t concern yourself worrying  if your saying it right, your intent will take care of it on a subconscious level.

In traditional Buddhist, people are said to have 108 afflictions.
There are six senses – sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, and consciousness
multiplied by three reactions – positive, negative, or indifference)
making 18 “feelings.”
multiplied by two categories – attached to pleasure, detached from pleasure
making 36 “passions”,
Multiple by 3 as each “passions” may be manifested in the past, present, or future.
All the above (6 x 3 x 2 x3 ) makes a total of 108, represented by the beads.

Ever since devices like the iPhone came out, apps have been made for self improvement.  There are several to help overcome your phobias.  Anyone who has a phobia can use self hypnosis to overcome their fear.  The apps for the iPhone are great for guided meditations and hypnosis.

Phobias are the most common psychiatric problems, ranging from fear of flying and heights to needles and spiders. Traditional treatment consists of psychotherapy, specifically exposure to the stimulus with attempts to control the response. Now, a new offering from Self-Study Apps spurports a similar approach in the comfort of your own home.

The app goes for $2.99 and has different sections for dealing with dentists, spiders, and flying. We tested “Fear Dentists”, which should appeal to our anti-dentite readers. The app shows a picture of a teddy bear for a few seconds, then it shows a picture of the stimulus, in this case a set of teeth being threatened by a sharp implement, although you can select your own image or take a photo. Next, you use your finger to blur the evil dental picture. Following, the screen flashes between the blurred image and the teddy bear. This repeats several times, then an affirming message is displayed.

The website purports to use a form of neuro-linguistic programming, and has some basic info about different treatments for phobias. Although we can’t say if this app works due to our fearless lack of phobias, and the app and website aren’t the most polished, it is worth a try if you are struggling with a phobia.

I use my iPhone almost every night.  The apps for meditations are fantastic.  It took awhile to find the ones that were right for me since there are so many.  Most are free so try as many as it takes to find your perfect app.  I highly suggest that if you want to overcome your phobias you try one of the iPhone apps.
